Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
[At Henneth Annûn, Faramir and one of his rangers look over a map.]
Faramir: "What news?"
Madril: "Our scouts study Saruman has attacked Rohan. Théoden'south people have fled to Helm's Deep. Simply nosotros must look to our own borders. Faramir, orcs are on the move. Sauron is marshalling an army. Easterlings and Southrons are passing through the Black Gate."
Faramir: "How many?"
Madril: "Some thousands. More come up every day."
Faramir: "Who's covering the river to the north?"
Madril: "We pulled five hundred men out of Osgiliath, simply if the urban center is attacked, we won't hold it."
Faramir: "Saruman attacks from Isengard. Sauron from Mordor. The fight volition come to men on both fronts. Gondor is weak. Sauron volition strike us soon. And he will strike hard. He knows now we do not have the strength to repel him."
[The 2 hobbits' hoods are removed.]
[Faramir approaches them.]
Faramir: "My men tell me that you are orc spies."
Sam: "Spies! Now wait but a infinitesimal."
Faramir: "Well if you lot're not spies, then who are you lot?"
[The hobbits remain silent and Faramir sits down.]
Faramir: "Speak!"
Frodo: "Nosotros are hobbits of the Shire. Frodo Baggins is my proper name and this is Samwise Gamgee."
Faramir: "Your bodyguard?"
Sam: "His gardener."
Faramir: "And where is your skulking friend? That gangrel beast. He had an ill-favored look."
Frodo: "There was no other."
Frodo: "Nosotros set out from Rivendell with 7 companions. One we lost in Moria. Ii were my kin. A dwarf there was likewise. And an elf. And 2 men. Aragorn, son of Arathorn and Boromir of Gondor."
Faramir: "You were friend of Boromir?"
Frodo: "Yes, for my office."
Faramir [stands]: "Information technology would grieve y'all then, to learn that he is dead?"
Frodo: "Dead? How? When?"
Faramir: "Every bit one of his companions, I had hoped you would tell me."
Frodo: "If something has happened to Boromir, nosotros would have you tell the states."
Faramir: "His horn washed up upon the riverbank, about half dozen days by. It was cloven in 2."
Faramir: "But more this, I know information technology in my heart. He was my brother."
[Faramir, on a riverbank, turns to see a boat approaching. He wades into the river.]
[Information technology is filled with water and Boromir is lying dead inside.]
[The gunkhole continues past Faramir.]
[Dorsum in the caves of Henneth Annûn, Faramir sits alone holding Boromir'south horn.]
[Another flashback, this time to a crowd at Osgiliath, facing Boromir.]
Crowd: "Boromir!"
[Boromir is waving the white flag of the Stewards.]
Oversupply: "Boromir!"
[Boromir stands upon a high wall in Osgiliath. He lifts his sword and addresses a crowd of Gondorian soldiers beneath.]
Boromir: "This city was in one case the jewel of our kingdom. A place of light, and beauty, and music. So information technology shall exist one time more!"
[The oversupply thank you.]
Boromir: "Permit the armies of Mordor know this: Never again will the land of my people fall into enemy easily."
[More than auspicious.]
Boromir: "The city of Osgiliath has been reclaimed. For Gondor!"
Oversupply: "For Gondor!"
Boromir: "For Gondor!"
Crowd: "For Gondor!"
Boromir: "For Gondor!"
Oversupply: "For Gondor!"
[Dorsum on the streets, Faramir and Boromir meet and comprehend.]
Faramir: "Good speech. Squeamish and brusque."
Boromir: "Leaves more time for drinking!"
Boromir: "Break out the ale! These men are thirsty!"
Boromir: "Recollect today, footling brother. Today, life is skillful."
[Faramir looks past Boromir and stops smile.]
Boromir: "What?"
Faramir: "He is hither."
Boromir: "Ane moment of peace. Can he non give usa that?"
Denethor: "Where is he? Where is Gondor's finest? Where is my first-built-in?"
Boromir: "Father!"
[Boromir and Denethor embrace.]
Denethor: "They say you vanquished the enemy most unmarried-handedly."
Boromir: "They exaggerate. The victory belongs to Faramir also."
Denethor: "But for Faramir, this urban center would however be standing. Were yous not entrusted to protect it?"
Faramir: "I would have washed, but our numbers were likewise few."
Denethor: "Oh, too few. You lot let the enemy walk in and take it on a whim. Always yous cast a poor reflection on me."
Faramir: "That is not my intent."
Boromir: "You requite him no credit and yet he tries to practise your will."
[Boromir withdraws to an alcove. Denethor follows.]
Boromir: "He loves yous, Father."
Denethor: "Do non trouble me with Faramir. I know his uses, and they are few. We accept more than urgent things to speak of. Elrond of Rivendell has called a meeting. He will not say why, simply I take guessed its purpose. It is rumored that the weapon of the enemy has been found."
Boromir: "The Ane Band. Isildur's Blight."
Denethor: "It has fallen into the hands of the Elves. Everyone will endeavour to claim it: Men, Dwarves, wizards. We cannot let that happen. This matter must come to Gondor."
Boromir: "Gondor."
Denethor: "It's dangerous, I know. E'er the Ring will seek to corrupt the hearts of lesser men. But you lot, you are strong and our need is great. Information technology is our blood which is being spilled, our people who are dying. Sauron is biding his fourth dimension. He'south massing fresh armies. He will return. And when he does, we will exist powerless to stop him. Yous must go. Bring me back this mighty souvenir."
Boromir: "No. My place is here with my people. Not in Rivendell."
Denethor: "Would you deny your own male parent?"
Faramir: "If there is need to get to Rivendell, send me in his stead."
Denethor: "You? Oh, I meet. A take chances for Faramir, captain of Gondor, to show his quality. I think not. I trust this mission simply to your blood brother. The one who volition not neglect me."
[Boromir sits his equus caballus and looks up at the flag of the Stewards.]
[Boromir and Faramir wait at each other.]
